By law the UK must reach net zero.
Frightening and confusing, but don’t be worried – it’s just new to most people.
With the government wanting the country to be net zero by 2050 – and “half of homes needing heat pumps by 2040” – there is going to be an influx of new renewable energy companies popping up all over the country, and many a Brit worried and confused about the aspect of ‘going green’: not knowing how, anxious about how green products function, and obviously the cost of doing so.
Air source heat pumps are becoming the main source of heating in our newer build homes across the country, but will an air source heat pump work in an older property?
At ACE Green Energy UK, we will be able to go through the entire process step by step. The first step would be carrying out a current Energy Performance inspection of the property; this will produce your certification for your home and then confirm if you are entitled to the green home government grants. From there, we will design and build a solution around you and your property. As you can imagine there are multiple specifications and sizes of air source heat pumps; we will make sure you have the best system for you and your home, which would usually consist of an outside unit and then, commonly, a buffer storage vessel and hot water cylinder within the property. A full survey must be completed as these options do not always suit the property – but no need to worry, we can establish the best option for you.
If I live in a flat, will an air source heat pump work?
As time moves on, you will start to see units appearing on balconies, even on brackets on the side of homes/buildings – a bit like an air conditioning unit – and these will be air source heat pump systems. So yes, you can have an air source heat pump.
The important bit: “How much will an air source heat pump cost?”
Pricing varies from property to property, and this is why a survey must be completed. The survey will provide vital information pertaining to how the unit is installed, how it functions, warranties, maintenance plans and how much it all costs. For example: costings for a 2-3 bed home start from £8k, large 3-4 bed homes may start from £12k and 5 bed homes from £15k. Government grants of up to £7,500 are currently available when you upgrade from a fossil fuel heating system to a heat pump and we can also offer finance packages to help spread the cost.
