What are solar panels?
Solar panels absorb light from the sun, converting solar energy into electricity. Sunlight is a consistent global renewable energy source, making solar panels a reliable and cost-effective long-term solution for almost any property, whether domestic or commercial.
The stronger the sunlight, the more electricity can be generated – but solar panels can still be effective on cloudy days or when out of constant direct sunshine. How do solar panels work?
Absorbing sunlight
Solar energy is absorbed by the solar panels’ PV cells which become energised by the sunlight and release electrons, which produce an electrical charge.
Charging up
The electrical charge then creates a direct current (DC) of electricity which is captured by the wiring within the panels.
Converting the power
A solar inverter converts the DC electricity into AC (alternating current) which can used to power your home and its appliances.
